Savu Savu, Fiji

From the Internet research I did before departing, I determined that Savu Savu probably would not have much to interest us – and decided that, at this port, we would attempt to find somewhere nice for a pleasant lunch. I had heard that there was a restaurant on the wharf – but got mixed messages as to whether it was a full service restaurant or a simple takeaway cafe. As soon as we landed, we could immediately see that there was in fact both. But the restaurant (Captain’s Table) looked very nice with a delightful scenic view. We quickly decided to take a table straight away – as it would probably fill up quickly. This it did not do – I don’t know why – possibly because its’ decor and position makes it look expensive??? But I can report that it was not expensive – and in fact was remarkably inexpensive. Of course, our current exchange rate of $1 AUD=$1.75FJD makes everything in Fiji appear inexpensive.

Not a bad outlook???

And the delicious fresh fish main course was a whole $9AUD!!!
After lunch, we walked to see the hot springs. Although somewhat small and perhaps perceived by some to be not especially “exciting”, I enjoyed seeing them. We have been to the thermal springs in Rotorua,NZ – but the springs there were muddy. These small springs in Savu Savu are crystal clear – and BOILING!!
